steroid

steroids
Steroids are compounds that have the basic framework triterpena acyclic. Common trait is steroid ring system incorporated four. Rings A, B and C consisting of six carbon atoms, and a five-member ring D. Consider Figure 14:51 on the following pages.

Cholesterol is the most steroid in the human body.
Cholesterol has a basic structure of a steroid nucleus containing a methyl group, a hydroxy group attached to the ring first, and the alkyl chain.
The content of cholesterol in the blood ranges from 200-220 mg / dL, increased levels of cholesterol in the blood can constrict blood vessels in the heart, leading to coronary heart problems. Treatment is often done as the blood vessels dilate, installing rings or surgery.
Cholesterol in the body is formed in the liver from food. The structure of cholesterol can be seen in Figure 14:52.

Cholesterol in the meal we need to be aware of the growing trend of heart disease is quite high in Indonesia. Some foods that contain lots of cholesterol are presented in Table 14.7 below.

Bile salts and cholesterol synthesis is the result stored in the bladder, the role of these compounds is for emulating oil fatty acids and lipids that increase the surface to be dismantled enzymatically. The molecular structure of bile salts can be seen in Figure 14:53.

Another example of lipid types of steroids are sex hormones for men and women such as testosterone, estradiol and progesterone. The molecular structure and function can be seen in Table 14.8.
